Abstract A brief synthesis of milestones in forest growth modelling helps to establish research topics for further model development in managed tropical forests. Forest growth models have become indispensable for forest management, but need further development to realize their full utility. Feedback from monitoring predictions versus realizations should provide the basis for continuing improvement, both in growth modelling and in forest management.
