Formatted Abstract/Summary
A University of Queensland Library event to announce the 2017 Library award and fellowship recipients, and showcase new acquisitions that were made possible through donations, held at Fryer Library, December 6 2017.

The 2017 recipients are:
• UQ Library Excellence Award: Sila Felix, Catherine Crombie, and Alexander Asher. The UQ Library Excellence Award is presented annually to up to three UQ undergraduate students who demonstrate excellence in the use of the Library to enhance their studies.
• Taylor & Francis Group Library Excellence Award in Research: Caitlin Kuempel (Faculty of Science, Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation Science).
• Fryer Library Fellowship: Dr Duncan Hose. Dr Hose will explore the archive of poet John Forbes held in the Fryer Library.
• Rae and George Hammer Memorial Visiting Research Fellowship: Banjo James, who is focusing on a psychoanalytic reading of melancholy in John Forbes' poetry. This fellowship was established by Dr Margaret Hammer in memory of her parents Rae and George Hammer. The fellowship is to support students from universities outside of Brisbane who are undertaking an Honours, Masters or PhD program to access the primary collections held in Fryer Library.
• Creative Writing Fellowship: Dr Ashley Haywood. Dr Haywood will draw upon material in the Fryer Library’s Dorothy Hill Collection for a book of poems entitled Portraits. Her poems will explore the geography, geology, and ecology of Australian landscapes. The Creative Writing Fellowship provides an emerging Australian author with the opportunity to develop a new work of creative writing, drawing on the special collections of The University of Queensland's Fryer Library. The Fellowship is offered with the support of the Copyright Agency Cultural Fund.
• To celebrate Alumni Friends of The University of Queensland Inc.’s Golden Jubilee, UQ Library ran two competitions for UQ students on social media. The Lawrence Family Award for a student selected by the UQ Librarian was presented by Geoff Lawrence. Students were encouraged to think about what the UQ Library means to them (#myuqlibrary). Reuben Heim was selected as the winner of the UQ Library competition. Yvonne Chan was selected as the recipient of the Fryer Library Dr Rhyl Hinwood AM Prize. Yvonne won the Fryer Library competition, in which students were encouraged to share a favourite 'treasure from the Fryer Library’s collections (shared as #myfryertreasure).
