The stratigraphic units of the thesis area include the Mitakoodi Quartzite, Overhang Jaspilite and lower and middle members of the Corella Formation. These units are documented to supplement the previous work on the formations and to establish the environment of deposition of the sequence.

A small number of basic igneous rocks are studied and a differentiation pattern noted. This indicates that at least on a local scale the extrusive basalts in the stratigraphic column and concordant intrusive phases are derived from the same phase of magmatic activity.

The problem of the nature of the Tommy Creek Microgranite is discussed and several mechanisms for its emplacement proposed.

The structural interpretation of the area is made on the basis of limited data and some of the characteristics of the east-west generation of folds are distinguished.

Many rock types in the eastern basin of the North West Queensland Precambrian Province have been affected by an alteration process which renders the plagioclase red and often opaque due to the presence of fine haematite inclusions. The associations of this phenomenon and its relationship to retrogressive metamorphism are discussed.
