Abstract/Summary This paper seeks to explore the implications of market forces affecting student preferences to enrol in mining engineering programs. It argues that, in the absence of any unforeseen externality, the current bear market is likely to last until 2020– 22. As a result, University mining engineering programs must seek to become resilient. The paper then examines various options to build such resilience into current mining programs.
