Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the connection between preradiotherapy dental extractions and self-reported health-related QoL.

Study Design: Retrospective data on patients treated with radiotherapy for oropharyngeal cancer were pooled with the results of a cross-sectional survey.

Results: Greater than eight preradiotherapy dental extractions, p16 negative status, female gender, and positive smoking status were associated with statistically significant reduced QoL.

Conclusions: Preradiotherapy dental extractions do not result in improved QoL and, in fact, may worsen it.
