The writer's professional work after the completion of his PhD in 1979 is described together with indications of its quality, its originality and its impact on the profession. The main area of contribution is that covered by the book "Coastal bottom boundary layers and sediment transport" which was published by World Scientific in 1992. This book is a combination of a research monograph and a forward looking review of the state of the art. Other areas or significant contribution are: Development of field instrumentation and field data collection; new methods for practical wave calculations and modelling of coastal groundwater dynamics. The writer's complete bibliography is included as well as copies of selected papers which illustrate full range of contributions.
