Abstract A theoretical study of the effect of feed concentration on the preparative performance of liquid chromatography has been performed for systems having solute-concentration-dependent selectivity. The investigations were based on the numerical simulations of a detailed rate-equation model and the local equilibrium distribution between the fluid and adsorbed phases is assumed to follow a quadratic isotherm. The elimination and the utilisation of the selectivity reversal have been discussed in terms of the optimisation of the preparative performance.
