Abstract The chemotactic response of peripheral blood monocytes to untreated, complement activated and inactivated autologous serum was determined in patients receiving therapy for cervical or ovarian cancer. A significant reduction in monocyte chemotaxis, based on the number of migrating monocytes, in complement activated autologous serum, was observed in the cervical cancer group relative to the healthy subjects (controls). However, this reduction in response was not reflected in the monocyte chemotactic response index (response in treated serum/untreated serum). No significant difference in monocyte chemotaxis was found between the ovarian cancer group and the controls.
