Abstract Two separate constitutive enzymes responsible for glucose and fructose phosphorylation respectively were identified in Zymomonas mobilis grown on sucrose, glucose or fructose. Both enzymes were separated, purified and identified as glucokinase (EC 2.7.1.2) and fructokinase (EC 2.7.1.4). Glucokinase exhibits a molecular weight of 60,000 and fructokinase of 85,000 daltons.
