Abstract Scales; spinelets and toothplates of a new lophosteiform have been found in shallow water marine limestones(Lochkovian; pesavis zone) from the Trundle beds of central New South Wales; Australia. Scales of Lophosteus incrementus nov. sp. have characters intermediate between those of Lophosteus superbus Pander and primitive acanthothoracid placoderms. The scales differ from those of L. superbus in having an ornament with small; triangular tubercles along the anterior margin. Numerous vascular canals penetrate the base keel.
