Abstract The crystal structures of [Zn(AMN4S2sarH)](ClO4)(NO3) 2·2H2O (AMN4S2sar = 1-methyl-8-amino-3,13-dithia-6,10,16,19-tetraazabicyclo[6.6.6]icosane) and [Zn(AMN5Ssar)] (ClO4)2·2H2O (AMN5Ssar = 1-methyl-8-amino-3-thia-6,10,13,16,19-pentaazabicyclo[6.6.6] icosane) have been determined by X-ray diffraction methods. In each case the ligands effectively encapsulate the metal ion within a macrobicyclic cavity, a distorted octahedral environment resulting from both the unsymmetrical nature of the mixed nitrogen and thioether donor atoms and the small size of the zinc(II) ion.
