Abstract A new bivalve, ?Sichuania marwicki n. sp., is described from the Early Triassic Smithian or Spathian Substage of New Zealand. The form is a primitive member of the Buchiidae and is believed to be closely related to Glendella Runnegar from the Glendoo Member of early Middle Permian age (Kungurian) in the Bowen Basin, Queensland. The similarities between the Buchiidae and Eurydesmatidae are discussed.
