Abstract A series of pentaamminerhodium(III) complexes, Rh(NH3)5Zn+, has been prepared, with 80% enrichment in 15N (Z = H2O, OH-, Cl-, Br-, I-, NH3, -ONO-, -NO2 -, -NCS-, -SCN-, -NCO-, CN-). The 1H-decoupled 15N NMR spectra show two doublets (from coupling to 103Rh) with approximate intensity ratio 4:1. δN and 1J(Rh-N) are sensitive to Z, especially for the unique ammine trans to Z. Good correlations exist between δN in this series and δN in the corresponding cobalt(III) complexes Co(NH3)5Zn+ and platinum(II) complexes Pt(NH3)3Zm+. J(Rh-N) trans to Z also correlates well with J(Pt-N) trans to Z in the platinum series.
