Abstract Reversible reactions inside porous catalyst pellets with symmetrical and asymmetrical boundary conditions are theoretically analyzed in this paper both in steady and unsteady state conditions by using a finite integral transform technique, It is found that each chemical species is associated with its own integral transform kernel and therefore two, related integral transforms are needed for analyzing this problem. For a catalyst pellet with asymmetry conditions, we observe the minimum-maximum phenomenon which is not observed in irreversible reactions cases under the same conditions.
