Abstract In this paper we will present the detailed theoretical and experimental studies of adsorption and desorption dynamics of ethane, butane and pentane, sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide onto an Ajax activated carbon. Single component as well as multicomponent adsorption dynamics are presented. The model takes into account diffusions of free and adsorbed species, with the diffusion of adsorbed species being governed by the chemical potential gradient, which occurs in both particle and microparticle directions. The experimental data were collected via a "Differential Adsorption Bed" or a gravimetric method.
