Abstract The Wigner-Ville distribution (WVD), a form of time-frequency analysis, is shown to be useful in the analysis of a variety of non-stationary signals both deterministic and stochastic. The properties of the WVD are reviewed and alternative methods of calculating the WVD are discussed. Applications are presented.
