Abstract The kinetics of simultaneous hydrolysis of cellulose and sucrose by cellulase and invertase were investigated. Sucrose and/or invertase was found to exert no inhibition or activation effect on the cellulose/cellulase system. The reverse was also true. The use of a hollow-fibre ultrafiltration cartridge to allow continuous removal of products was found to enhance the hydrolysis.
