Abstract/Summary In recent years the trend towards open distributed environments has accelerated, driven by the forces of technological advances and economic factors, and is evident in both computing and communications. The Intelligent Network (IN), for example, represents one realization of the concept. The changing nature of services in these networks gives rise to several new concerns including those of performance and novel quality of service requirements to handle service diversity and market pressures. In this paper we specifically focus on performance issues of the ODP trader component which may elucidate more general solutions in open environments for approaches such as IN.
