Live Performance of Creative Work - Music
Formatted Abstract/Summary
Making use of nothing but household objects and four pairs of hands, Argus transcends from the simple to the sublime when a fragile little creature seeks to find a home in a world where he just doesn’t fit in. This quietly touching piece highlights the beauty of an impossible life; one that is full of playfulness, joy and laughter.

Robert Davidson directed the music for this work, which is a puppet show with live music composed by Topology saxophonist John Babbage. The show is highly innovative in developing puppets by means of bare hands with minimal props. There have been multiple productions with live performance by Topology, including Powerkids (2013) at the Brisbane Powerhouse, Queensland Theatre Company (2015), and Lincoln Center, New York City (2017). The theatre company has also performed the work widely using Topology's recorded score.

Performance season of music (composed by John Babbage) for the innovative puppet theatre work Argus, in which the completely new approach of using bare hands, with no puppets, is ingeniously used by Dead Puppets Society. Topology (Robert Davidson, artistic director, bassist; Christa Powell, violin; Bernard Hoey, viola; Therese Milanovic, piano) performed the score live with the puppet artists.
