Formatted Abstract/Summary
This chapter describes some miscellaneous adverse events (AEs). It deals with miscellaneous IM and QI issues such as length of stay (LOS), antibiotic usage, multiple antibiotic-resistant organism (MRO) prevalence, assessing agreement, making decisions and dealing with outbreaks. Occasionally, data in ordered categories are of interest and a control chart based on RIDITs can be employed. The chapter provides a brief summary of how outbreak investigation relates to in-hospital events. Statistical methods that may aid in the analysis of hospital outbreaks, for example Mantel-Haenszel analysis and logistic regression are described. Systematic investigation of the outbreak is required and one of the first things is to look to previously identified cases and their causes.
