Abstract Porous membranes with oriented pore structures are produced by pulsed laser deposition. The membranes, consisting of uniform nanoparticles and nanometer-sized channels 30 nm in diameter, could be subsequently coated with a denser membrane structure (falsely colored pink in Figure); these structures could be candidates for applications in separations, fuel cells, and microelectronics.
