Formatted abstract

Outlined in the following thesis is a design for a 1:100 scale model of an armoured face conveyor system. This model has originated for various reliability tests, so that we can further enhance our knowledge of the dynamic effects that are associated with failures. The model is contained within a steel frame and consists of two AC motors that drive the roller chain and four DC motors to simulate the load from the coal.  

Chapters on design techniques and Longwall mining have also been included as background information needed to complete this model design.
