Formatted abstract
There is a growing awareness of the problems associated with diesel particulate matter (DPM), with some claiming it is the 'new asbestos', and management of such emissions is necessary. The aim of this study was to review existing management systems concerning diesel vehicle emissions (specifically diesel particular matter) and propose alternative management strategies to an underground coal mine. The optimum outcome of the management system would be the ability to safely schedule diesel vehicle work activities, thus reducing coal mine workers' exposure to potentially harmful diesel engine exhaust emissions. This paper describes the results of the research.
