Abstract/Summary Changing workforce demographics are presenting challenges for many employers, and strategic workforce planning is increasingly being pursued as a solution. This paper provides a review of the first step of workforce planning – the analysis phase – in the Queensland public service. It provides a broad analysis of both the whole Queensland public service, as well as trends in major occupational groups in regard to two major challenges - changing demographics and turnover. It concludes with consideration of the policy challenges raised by this data.
