Abstract In this issue of Advances in Chronic Kidney Disease, emphasis is placed on populationbased perspectives on kidney and related chronic diseases and their risk factors. The articles remind us that we must expand our views, break down specialty barriers, work on improved primary care models and prevention modalities, and think in terms of wholeof- person and whole-of-community, rather than in organ-specific approaches.
