Recently, we discussed (Barry et al. 2003) the paper of Serrano (2001). There, we demonstrated that the theory presented by Serrano (2001) was considerably less accurate than an existing, simpler approximation by Brutsaert (1977). In his closure, the author (Serrano 2003a, p. 169) first concludes that the figures plotted by Barry et al. (2003) are incorrect. Next, he presents new approximations for the Green-Ampt cumulative infiltration and flux [Serrano 2003a, Eqs. (3) and (4)] and compares them with those of Brutsaert (1977). Based on this comparision, he reaches his second conclusion that his “new results are clearly superior.” In this discussion, we point out that both conclusions are incorrect.
