Abstract Pressure waves have been recorded at Brisbane, 7,400 km from the epicentre of an earthquake in Japan. Calculated group velocities for the three prominent oscillations with periods of 168 sec, 70 sec and 60 sec are consistent with theoretical values. The maximum amplitude recorded was 58 μ bar.
