Abstract A theoretical investigation of possible storm time neutral air wind, electric field and composition perturbations of the F-region has been undertaken using a mathematical model of the atmosphere in the altitude range 120-800 km. The results confirm and extend previous calculations using a simple servo-model of the F2 peak. Estimates of the likely variation of such parameters as total electron content, peak electron concentration and height of the F2 peak of the perturbed ionosphere are provided for comparison with experimental data.
