Abstract A slightly modified version of a revised Fieldwork Performance Report (FWPR) with an additional five items in the professional characteristics section was used to measure clinical competence of 53 female students. Students’ scores for three separate six weeks’ full-time blocks and one twelve weeks’ part-time block affiliations were analysed. The results showed high positive intercorrelations among the section sub totals of the FWPR and total score. Various analyses of variance showed that students going outside Brisbane for their fieldwork were scoring poorer than students staying in Brisbane; that the performance pattern over the four affiliations was very similar for all five sections of the FWPR, with students performing substantially better in the final affiliation than in the first three affiliations; that there was no significant difference between performance in the three basic areas of clinical practice; and finally, data from the five point scale showed clustering towards the upper end of the scale.
