Abstract 1. 1. The oviducal secretion of the rabbit fallopian tube has been shown to exhibit unusual enzymic characteristics, and these special features appear to possess significant involvements in relation to the biochemistry of mammalian reproduction and ontogeny. 2. 2. Of particular interest were the extraordinary levels of lactate dehydrogenase activity, which were selectively present in this extracellular environment, along with the high A-type contribution which was evident. 3. 3. Treatment of rabbits with progesterone, testosterone and estradiol induced marked augmentations in the specific activities of this oviducal enzyme, and shifts in the isoenzyme patterns. 4. 4. The significance of these changes has been discussed in relation to the energy requirements of preimplantation ova, the metabolic interconversions of these reproductive hormones, and the complements of enzymes observable in the oviducal fluid.
