Abstract A singular-perturbation approach is employed in this paper to rigorously justify the boundary condition used for a zero-order chemical reaction occurring inside a catalyst pellet having mass-transfer resistance at the fluid-solid interface. The validity of this boundary condition can be shown to be extended to the transient behavior.
