Abstract Methods presented in a previous paper are used to estimate the effectiveness of various wind systems in producing electric currents in the ionosphere. The likelihood of these winds being present in the dynamo region is discussed. A series of calculations of current patterns generated by various wind systems is made using the equivalent circuit method (Stening, 1968) and a combination of these systems is sought which will produce a current pattern like that observed. It seems that a mixture of positive and negative tidal modes is required. Seasonal changes in the current systems cannot be explained merely by variations in the conductivities but also require changes in the interrsities or positions of the wind systems.
