Abstract Room temperature physical and mechanical properties of different atomized aluminium powders blended and ball-milled with the addition 0.9 to 10.0 wt % of oxide powder were determined. The mechanical properties of blended and ball-milled alloys (MD105 and R400) were better than those obtained in the commercial SAP alloys and powder blended MD105 alloys. The results are explained on the basis of uniform distribution of oxide particles and the decrease obtained in the particle size of the aluminium powder during milling.
