Abstract Results are presented of analyses carried out on the process waters generated during the pyrolysis of oil shale from Rundle, Australia via the Fischer Assay retorting process. Comparison with the much more extensive data base existing on the retorting of U.S. oil shales shows good agreement. The implications for further analytical work and for choosing appropriate disposal strategies are discussed.
