Abstract Raman spectra of aqueous solutions of Hg(CN) 2 in the presence of halide ions indicate complex formation. The three Raman lines of Hg(CN) 2 are shifted or broadened and new lines appear which are attributed to Hgz.sbnd;CN bending and HgN stretching, where X = Br and I.
