Formatted Abstract/Summary
The finite mixture model has become an important tool in statistical modelling and analysis. in recent years, mixtures of skew distributions have emerged as a powerful extension to the traditional normal and t-mixture models. They have been effectively applied to model heterogeneous data with asymmetric features. We shall discuss some of the more commonly used skew symmetric distributions, in particular, the skew normal and skew t-models. Examples involving the analysis of real data sets will be given.
