Abstract Partial reflection signal strengths of 1.98 MHz pulsed transmissions are described using an array whose effective beam is steered in the meridian plane to zenith angles of ±40° in 5° steps. In the lower D-region the angular variation of signal strength indicates specular reflection from a nearly horizontal reflector. Near and above 80 km altitude, signals are received over a wider range of angles.
