Abstract A peach flowered form of Datura Candida was cultivated and the effects of a nitrogen application, harvest date and leaf position on hyoscine yield were studied. Gas chromatographic analysis of leaves collected at successive nodes in the main axis showed that hyoscine as a percentage of the dry weight decreased as the leaf matured. The highest yield recorded was 0.56%. Rows of plants were harvested so that young regrowth leaves were collected at monthly intervals. There was little significant variation in hyoscine production, which averaged 0.34% over a nine month period. Datura Candida is compared with a Duboisia hybrid which is an established source of hyoscine.
