The Arthur Power Lyons Collection, UQFL185 contains photographs, diaries, correspondence, maps, journals, publications and annual reports.

Arthur Power Lyons was born in Bundaberg Queensland, in 1879. He was educated in Sydney and became Assistant Resident Magistrate in Papua in 1906. In 1909 he was appointed Resident Magistrate in the Western Division of Papua, and Warden of Gold and Mineral Fields. Lyons married Daphne Winnifred Slade on 6 January 1919 at Hamilton, New Zealand. From 1930 until his retirement in 1943, A.P. Lyons was Director of Public Works for Papua. He was also a member of the Papuan Executive and Legislative Council in this period, and chairman of the Building and Petroleum Advisory Boards.

Additional Notes Daphne Lyons (née Slade), was the wife of Arthur Power Lyons, who was Resident Magistrate at Samarai during the years 1925 to 1930, and the mother of Erna Lyons. Document contains family history, reminiscences of child's birth and infancy.
