This book consists mainly of transcripts of the Art & Language discussions in Melbourne and Adelaide in May, June and July 1975 with some related material. The transcripts were made under difficult conditions -- in both places the recording wasn't too good, so that much was muffled or lost, especially from amongst what was said by participants. Discussion erupting around and across the room is not properly represented. Also, the sessions usually went for nearly two hours, roughly twenty hours In all, so that in the Interests of brevity I sometimes edited to capture the sense rather than the detailed substance of the discussions. Therefore, although the invited participants have checked the transcripts of their sessions and found them adequate, these transcripts are offered as renderings rather than records of the actual discussions.
I have added to the transcripts an Introduction outlining the aims of the shows and describing the censorship to which they were subject and, at the end, an 'Epilogue Scraps', consisting of extracts from transcripts of interviews, discussions, talks and lectures in which I participated during 1975, all of which bear on the discussions/display.
