In 1963 the Communist Party of Australia (Marxist-Leninist) (CPA (ML)) was founded by former members of the Communist Party of Australia. The CPA (ML) formed the Australian Independence Movement (AIM) in the mid-1970s, using the blue Eureka Flag as its symbol.
