Formatted Abstract/Summary
The oral history interviews were conducted in preparation for the 1985 publication A place of light & learning : the University of Queensland's first seventy-five years by Malcolm Thomis, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the foundation of the University of Queensland.

Some three dozen tape recordings were made of interviews with former staff and students of the University. The interviews were conducted by John Cole, Nancy Bonnin and others from 1979 to 1983.

Between 1999 and 2001, the University of Queensland Library converted the tape recordings into MP3 format. In 2015 the Library combined tracks with the same interviewees and converted the MP3 to WAV format.

Additional Notes In 1929 Bruce Green joined the staff of UQ fresh from school at the age of 14, and went on to give over 50 years’ service to the University.

He held several positions during this time including Examinations and Student Records Clerk, Officer in charge of enrolments and Ceremonies; in 1961 he was appointed Assistant Registrar and in 1965 transferred as Assistant Registrar in Academic Administration. He retired at the end of 1980.

His only period of absence from the University occurred during World War II. He served briefly with the Royal Australian Air Force and then a number of years with the Australian Military Forces in the Small Ships Section of the Allied Transport Services.< br>
In 1970 he was awarded an honorary Bachelor of Arts degree in recognition of his service to the University. On his retirement the Senate’s tribute noted that Bruce Green was the first to complete 50 years’ service as a member of the administrative staff and applauded his role on committees and in developing the campus kindergarten.

Having spent so many years at UQ placed him in the unique position of being able to witness and be part of the changes and growth of the University from a small concern at Old Government House to the large and multi-campus internationally recognised concern it is today.
