Abstract/Summary Professor Edna Chamberlain, 1921 - 2005, was the first woman appointed as a professor in the field of social work in Australia. She held this position from 1973 until her retirement in 1986, also serving as Head of the Department and Dean of the Faculty on several occasions. She was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 1988 and an honorary Doctor of Philosophy in 1995. The Chamberlain building was named in her honour in 1996.
