This thesis is a literature review on determining the possibility of biodiesel as an alternative fuel based on its combustion performance in diesel engine. Various published papers and accessible materials related to this topic have been studied. The world, specifically Australia had been using diesel fuel as an energy source since the year of 1969. Despite diesel reliable performance, it effects on human health and environment had become concerns as well as its skyrocketing fuel price. Thus, many researches have been conducted in order to discover cleaner burning alternative fuel and reduce the reliance over conventional diesel. Consequently, biodiesel is found to be a potential energy source to substitute diesel.
There were many methods of biodiesel production and the used of catalyst during the transesterification process resulted into higher yield. Furthermore, the biodiesel production cost is found to be expensive due to the low raw material supply. Besides, biodiesel utilization is accessible in Brisbane, Australia as several potential local suppliers are found.
