This thesis documents the sculptural career and public art activities of Queensland's pioneer woman sculptor and public art figure, Daphne Mayo.

It aims to place her sculpture within the context of art in Queensland, of sculpture in Australia and the achievements of its women practitioners; and to study the wider artistic influences on her work. The thesis also aims to assess her public contribution to art in Queensland, with reference to artistic opportunities in the State before and after her pioneering efforts.

A catalogue raisonné of Daphne Mayo's life time sculptural output follows the thesis text.
