Abstract/Summary The coordination of dispersed generation units and controllable loads together with the interconnecting network is one of the essential challenges of the future Smart Grid. Recent studies demonstrate that a suitable load and generation management can lead to a substantial reduction in network augmentation costs, being significantly higher otherwise. To achieve this an active management of generation and load – especially on lower voltage levels – with respect to the interconnecting networks’ capacity constraints – is needed. The high number and specifics of medium and low voltage networks require novel approaches for the estimation of operational states with these conditions posing significant challenges to the existing state-of-the-art approaches. In this context this paper presents a novel state estimation technique that is robust against measurement deficiencies, currently in the early stages of testing. In addition to the principal ideas of said method, further development pathways and current test results are presented.
