Formatted abstract
Bamford Hill lying some 150km west of Cairns, North Queensland was at the turn of the century a prominent tungsten producer. It is geologically part of the igneous province of the Hodgkinson Basin that has suffered calc-alkaline magmatism in a tectonic arc-trench environment during Permo-Carboniferous times. The immediate vicinity of Bamford Hill reflects this calc-alkaline magnetism by the rock compositions and geochemical trends in the oxides of the major rock forming elements. The acid rock types seen in the form of stocks, ash flow tuffs and dykes, reflect to a degree a caldera type environment and from trace element data suggest a comagmatic affinity between them.

Mineralization though varied, is essentially a tungsten-molybdenum deposit in the form of wolframite and molybdenite restricted to an alteration zone along the eastern contact of the PBG-I stock. Four alteration types can be seen within the alteration zone, Feldspathization, Muscovitization, Greisenization and Chloritization, the first three being associated with late magmatic - early post magmatic solutions, while the chlorization cross cuts earlier alterations and is considered to be similar in mineral assemblage to propylitization seen in porphyry ore environments.
