A broadband unidirectional zigzag corrugated taper slot antenna for heart failure detection system is presented. A novel type of corrugation is used to keep the taper slot compact and provide a broad operating bandwidth. The antenna, which has the compact size of 0.22 λ × 0.26 λ (λ is the wavelength of the first resonance of the antenna, covers the band 650-916 MHz which is used in microwave-based heart failure detection. The antenna provides a stable gain of 1.6 dBi over its bandwidth with a stable unidirectional and symmetrical radiation pattern.
