Formatted Abstract/Summary
This work for violin and piano is a musical reflection on the meditative experience of being aware in the present moment, looking through the lens of childhood experience in memory. The program note for the work is "I composed "This single moment" during a project to listen to all of Debussy's works in chronological order. The influence is unavoidable, but more in how I perceive the mood and orientation than in specific patterns. I had in mind a strong image of a younger me walking to primary school on a bright spring morning, completely immersed in that moment. One forgets that life is composed only of single moments". The work was commissioned by 4MBS Festival of Chamber Music and was first performed by Fern Ong and Jonathan Ng on 19 May 2012.
