Formatted Abstract/Summary
Composition exploring chromatic voice-leading-based triadic progressions in a chaconne with three-part canonic counterpoint. The title is a pun on the harsh stare one may receive from an angry person and the dazzling, searing light of the sun. The mood of the piece combines these two meanings. This brass ensemble version is based on the original work for trumpet, piano and string quartet and was first performed in the Brisbane Contemporary Church Music Festival's "Uproar" concert in St John's Cathedral by Benjamin Marks and ensemble.
